Brisbane based artist Maxwell Byrne, aka Golden Vessel, has created a unique sound that blends electronic-pop with alternative-RnB to give us a compellingly smooth yet chilled sound that sends serotonin throughout the body. You can sense that he has curated music that mirrors his vision as an artist and producer and through that he is giving us some major boss boy energy.

Golden Vessel has recently dropped his new single midwest, the first track of his upcoming album Colt which is set to release in early 2021. We get to see the direction he is taking this album in and what we’re in for. The song has a range of levels throughout, we’re vibing with the smokey vocals and use of guitar throughout.

We also get to follow the creative journey of Maxwell as he and Mathew Howard together directed the music video for midwest. The music video showcases their high quality creative vision and execution, turning simple shots into something exciting and a high key huge vibe. It really depicts the vision of the album which is that road trip look and feel.

Earlier in the week we asked Golden Vessel a few questions about his new single and his alternative creative outlets.

Here is a snippet of our conversation:

So who is Golden Vessel, how’d you get into music?

Hey! My name is Maxwell and Golden Vessel is my music project. I’ve been doing it for about 7 years now since I was 16, I downloaded a copy of Ableton and sort of just never stopped.

Tell us about your new track ‘Midwest’, where did you draw your inspiration from?

It's the first single off my new album colt which is a bit of a road-trip album and I felt Midwest sort of set the tone and summed it all up quite nicely. I listen to a lot of music and watch a lot of films and I saw sort of a steady increase in guitar music (like big thief and arcade fire) in Americana films and I think I just wanted to sum it up in my own way.

How have you found the process in creating the follow up album to “SLOWSHINE”?

It's been quite easy actually. I started colt well before slowshine came out so there was no rush and I was able to really explore a lot of ideas. And because of the head-start I've had a pretty clear concept of where colt was heading the whole time.

Can you tell us a little but about your new creative project sumoclic?

Yeah man. Sumoclic is a company that I've started with my best friend Connor Grant (aka Akurei). We do pretty much everything together and we talked ages ago about having a platform to put it all through, and we finally launched it in June!

Tell us about your relationship with photography?

I have a few friends that have been shooting film for ages and their love for it sort of infected me and I bought a point and shoot and started shooting maybe 3-4 years ago. It's such a rewarding process and it's nice to have other creative outlets!

Golden Vessel’s upcoming album is set to be his first release on sumoclic, a record label he started with his mate. It’s pretty apparent he has a lot of creative energy that he continues to find new outlets for. midwest has set the tone for his upcoming album titled colt and we can’t wait to see what the album holds in store for us.
