Q&A: meet BROOKLXN, our Aussie abroad drops debut single

xxo.jpg

Last month our new friend BROOKLXN dropped her debut release Thirsty. The emerging pop artist captured the essence of making someone work hard for your lovin’ in her new track. The bop screams boy you better treat me right because there’s a damn line just waiting to get in.

The Toronto based musician explained that after going out to bars and clubs last summer she began to notice how a few men thought they could have any woman they wanted fall under their spell, kind of like they owned the world or something. That’s where the song was born and the rest was history. Thirsty is a night club obstacle course in a song and boy does it make you want to shake shake shake your booty.

BROOKLXN is all about empowering women through her creative avenues. Through her own fun and direct way she wants to set higher expectations so women are treated the way they deserve to be. Yas B, you tell em!

Our Aussie abroad is straight up living her best life and killing it. She absolutely has the makings, drive and passion to be huge.

We caught up our slice abroad BROOKLXN to talk about her debut track, what she wouldn’t put on a dating profile and her move to Canada.

Check out all the feels below through a snippet of our conversation:

Hey BROOKLXN, so tell us how you got into music?

Hey Guys!!! Music has been in my life for as long as I can remember. My music journey started when my parents noticed how vocal I was at home and how much energy I had as a kid. They then put me into dancing lessons at the age of two years old, which then led to group singing by six and by the age of seven I started private lessons for vocals, which then evolved into music theory, piano and guitar lessons.

Tell us about your new track Thirsty

After spending time out at various bars and watching as men fruitlessly attempted to pick up women last summer, the creation of the idea for my new single Thirsty was born. Thirsty is all about demanding respect for yourself when others don’t show you enough of it and just treat you as an object.

Thirsty is about showing a man who is boss and who makes the rules. I believe that a man should treat you like a queen and want to get to know you. He needs to show you respect before you decide to take another step further into that relationship.

I want this song to empower women, to set higher expectations so you’re treated the way you deserve to be treated. I mean what’s that saying… happy wife, happy life. Guys, take notes!

Is empowering women through music important to you?

I'm ALL about empowering women through my music and in my life. I can't wait for everyone to hear all of my other songs, most of them are girl anthems. I want to spread a message to all my women that you are strong, beautiful and worthy!

How does it feel to have your debut single out in the world?

So exciting!!! I have so many songs stashed away that I've written over the past few years, so it feels great to at least have one song out and to start sharing my stories with the world!

Why the move to Canada?

I first visited Canada in 2017 and fell in love with Toronto as a city, so I made the move by 2018. It hasn't been easy, I moved here not knowing anything or anyone in the music industry, so I really did start from the bottom... "now we here" (haha I had to throw in a Drake reference)

... But in all honesty as an Aussie I really do miss the beach and the hot weather. The goal is to be able to live in Toronto for half the year and Australia for the other half.

What’s your favourite pastime other than music of course?

Anything creative - film, photography, art, graphics, design - you name it, I love it. Oh and OF COURSE eating and dancing!!!

What are the three best things about you that you wouldn’t put in your bio on a dating profile?

Ahhh! I love this question lol. Ummm, I honestly don't know. I have a double jointed toe? haha

I'm brutally honest, I wear my heart on my sleeve, I've been f***ed over WAY too many times and I'm pretty sure I have misophonia... -.-

What was your favourite toy growing up?

Well, I had three favourites, you know cause one wasn't enough haha. I absolutely LOVED my baby born, my sky dancer - 90's kids will know this one (the fairy that is attached to a base and you pull a cord and it starts flying) and my magnetic doodle sketch board.

Now that we have a taste of what you’re putting out, can we expect any more music from you this year?

1000% I'm already working on my next two releases!! Can't wait for you all to hear :)

OMG yes I always played with cousins my sky dancer, they were literally so much fun. Also huge mood to be able to live between to countries and just enjoy summer all year round, sign me up.

BROOKLXN has such spunk and is full of so much creative energy and we just love seeing her absolutely smash it. Her debut single Thirsty completely backs that up with the song pulling you in from the outset, a real Ariana Grande moment.
