Sydney musician Tyler Murray, aka pinkisicool,  released his third single Lose My Mind last month. The track does not disappoint, it’s fuelled by swirling vocals that are powerful but honeyed at the same time. His new single explores a few different emotional states but at it’s core it’s about the insecurity of feeling alone. The track feels like it’s been cut from the same cloth as Ruel or Harry Styles, indie-pop at it’s finest. Straight up pinkiscool is delivering some sweet nothings and we’re kind of obsessed.

The 20 year-old multi-instrumentalist and producer is cruising into the music scene like it’s something he has been doing forever. He has this effortless sound and look to him that squeals sold out world tour. Music has always been apart of Tylers life in one form or another and pinkiscool has become a project that mirrors his emotions and has become somewhat of an outlet for him.

We caught up with pinkiscool to chat about his new track, what it was like to pop his festival cherry and three local artists he’d love to see live.

Check out all the feels below:

Hey Tyler! Can you tell us a bit about your relationship with music and how Pinkiscool came to be?

Hi! I've always been invested in music from a super early age and always knew I wanted to end up in something creative. The whole pinkiscool project is a bit of an emotional outlet I suppose. A bit like therapy except less expensive and a bit more fun ;). Music has always had an incredible emotional connection to my life, It's there when I'm happy, when I'm sad, even when I'm just vibing. It'll get you through the tough times and make the best even better. Being a part of making something that other people can lean on for some kind of emotional solace is magical to me.

Talk us through your third single Lose My Mind and what it’s about?

I don't think I wrote the song with any very particular topic in mind. The lyrics are quite abstract and move around to a lot of different subject's but I guess at its core it's about the insecurity of feeling alone.

You can play quite a few instruments, what’s your instrument of choice (if you had to pick one)?

I'd have to say piano because it's what I'm best at but I genuinely enjoy playing everything. Instruments are like paints and the more you have access to the more accurately you can create what you're trying to capture.

What was the atmosphere like when you popped your festival cherry at The Grass is Greener?

Incredible. I remember it being super hot and not really coming to terms with the fact that I'd played until the day after but it was so wild. From mum buying the Ocean Alley boys' hot chips to meeting a bunch of new music people, it was insane but quite daunting to be in that environment for the first time. Also, a crazy coincidence being Peking Duk playing on the main stage just after me, and then a few years later, sharing management with them (the LEGENDARY Bennis

Who are three local artists you’d love to see live?

Hmmmm, ok

  1. I reckon Triple One would be HARD, their new album Panic Force has been my jam lately.

  2. MAY-A has been putting out some AMAZING stuff recently and I'd love to see a live show it would be so cool! and

  3. Finally Taka Perry has such a cool vibe - his latest release Diamonds goes so hard I feel like a Taka set would absolutely ripppp.

Personalised number plates, Y or N? And if you had to personalise yours what would it say?

Oooo good question. I'm here for it! Y from me. If I could I reckon I'd make mine something like p1nk

In your opinion, what is the most underrated bevrogino?

Ok but have you ever tried a Number 08 Cocktail? My friend Ford introduced me to it when I was in Byron and OH MY that is a tasty cocktail.

What’s the best advice, music related or not, you’ve received so far?

I think the best advice I've ever had is that "you don't owe a version of yourself to anyone else. Who you are now and who you are in fifteen minutes could be completely different but just make sure it's authentic to you". I find that really helpful in my relationships with other people and think about it all the time.

Our friend from up the coast is helping us close out the year by sharing some fond advice. All you have to be is your authentic self and the rest will follow, he’s not wrong. Also a Number 08 Cocktail sounds like a NYE experiment i’m willing to give a go, tequila is life.
